What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (BCST) is a gentle modality based on palpating (feeling) subtle rhythms that move through our bodies. By sensing where these movements get stuck, a practitioner can support a client’s body in its natural ability to heal itself. Any input from the practitioner is minimal, and most of the session involves long, gentle holds with the practitioner “listening” with his or her hands.

Clients often report experiencing non-ordinary states of consciousness from this type of work. Clients often describe the feeling as being awake and asleep at the same time. During a session, the client’s body and mind can become extremely relaxed, releasing deeply held tensions from the nervous system.

What are your craniosacral sessions like?

Craniosacral therapy is ideal for those clients who want to receive work while fully dressed in normal clothes. Thin, loose-fitting clothes are ideal.

Craniosacral sessions might start with a brief conversation about a client’s goals for the session. I have studied craniosacral in a Rolfing context, so I will use the light touch and listening contact of craniosacral therapy to evoke integration within the client’s entire system, which in this discipline we refer to as wholeness. We will work through different layers and areas of the body not limited strictly to the axial complex.

What should I wear?

Craniosacral clients can stay fully clothed, and it is beneficial to wear loose-fitting clothes with thin fabrics.
